Presentation speech ideas (PROJECT 3)

“I was walking down king st, and suddenly realised the awnings disappeared, then this large painting, on the wall, saying in big words “I HAVE A DREAM”. It really caught my attention. I thought that would be great for a shop. It reminded me of the brief, non mainstream art, and this was something not normal.
I could relate to the clients, dream of promoting this sort of extraordinary art.
So with this idea wanted an unordinary facade, but not just any random form, something that took into consideration of the surroundings, and juxtaposed it. So i thought of taking the triangle tips of the facades around, and the arch windows, flipping them upside down...than i saw opposites t strip windows, than i thought of awnings... than i thought that there were too many, Newtown’s diversity.
The main significant of my site was the curved road; hence i juxtaposed this with an opposite curve on my faced and initial interior circulation route.
I also used the same material of the outside pathway with he pathway and ramp inside, giving it a connection between inside and outside. I also thought that Newtown could be defined by 1 long road, kingst, hence i have 1 long path in my gallery.
So I created a face solving problems I thought Newtown had. Newtown’s building’s facade was too close to the pathways, the upper levels of the facade were blocked by awnings, you could only see the ones across the street. So i set the facade back from the street, and tilted the facade downwards, like as if it was bowing down to the pedestrians, giving it a better view.
I also wanted to contribute back to Newtown, when taking away a building, the site i chose already had artist selling works of art on the streets. There was also a bus stop, there were not enough seats, you could see too many people standing waiting for a bus. I thought it would be a great idea to make an outside sitting space which faced people waiting for bus towards the art gallery”
Narrative
A young man, who is very open, loves to socialise and loves art hence he lives with it. Being so open his bedroom is right in the middle of the gallery on ground floor, which is also right next to his office/studio, where he can wait for incoming customers, socialise with them and take them through the gallery. There are no doors (except for the toilet), the interior walls don’t touch the ceiling, highlighting the openness and fluidity. The lounge is entirely open, almost as if connect as one with the gallery, the gallery can also be seen as the clients lounge, with plenty sitting spaces, next to the sculptures, on the ramp, out in the courtyard..
With gallery’s display of non mainstream art, I wanted to give a non mainstream experience, watching art works on slanted walls, on different levels on a ramp, on different sloping planes at the courtyard.
There are basically 3 gallery spaces, the initial small one, than the large one than the outdoor court yard, it’s like a progression more space, as one journeys through the gallery. The pathway through the gallery can be initially seen as ‘forced’ close to the painting, than ‘loosened’ up at the ramp, and then ‘freed’ at the court yard. There is also a progression of increase of lighting, from dim reflected light at the small corridor, to large space, and to open day light at courtyard.
You can also see every other space where ever you stand in the gallery, eg. If u stood at the ramp u could see the courtyard and the corridor, and if at the corridor u could see the ramp and up the balcony of the courtyard, and at the courtyard looking down the balconies u can see every other space.
After creating my model and drawings ive noticed the special walls ive created for the corridor to let in light, can be seen as a large rectangular frame for the art works in the background

Narrative

The Owner is an open man, hence his love for anything out of the ordinary, non mainstream art. He loves to socialise, hence his living quater is right at the front of the shop so he can greet everyone that comes in, take them through the gallery, or through his apartment,

...to which he has an open living room and connected kitchen. The living room can also bee seen as part of the large viewing room, so they can partys/functions there?
